Check Out ‘Evening Chill’ In Worthington Friday

My friend Ed D'Angelo is a local musician in a few bands. One of them is Evening Chill which is fronted by another friend of ours, Maya Sayre.

They are playing Friday night at the Worthington Inn.

About Evening Chill
Featuring songs from the American Song Book, Evening Chill is a jazz quartet, fronted by the cool, sultry vocals of Maya Sayre.

Styles include swing, bossa, up-tempo & ballads.
Rogers and Hart, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, and many other great composers are represented in the quartet’s repertoire.

Evening Chill is a versatile group that would be a wonderful addition to any social gathering from corporate events to weddings; night clubs to private parties. Evening Chill can also be expanded to add horns & piano.
Check them out, and tell Ed his Conservative friend, Brian, sent you! He will know who you are talking about :-)

George Carlin, Pioneer, Dead at 71

I went to a George Carlin show once with my father and my older brother. It was one of the best times we ever had. Live comedy was something we all loved and Carlin was the best at it. One hell of a show.

I may not have always agreed with Carlin’s politics, but I always loved his genius. Right now, somewhere, is one hell of a show with Bruce, Pryor and Carlin.

In honor of his passing:
"Shit, Piss, Fuck, Cunt, CockSucker, MotherFucker, and Tits"

UPDATE: My friend Jessica has a GREAT post up about Mr. Carlin. Jessica's blog, Indexed, always hits it on the head.
BTW, you can buy her latest book here. It is brilliance.

Concept Car Is Bad-Ass, Period

BMW has a cool concept car that really takes a look at the basics of shape and form in an automobile. It may suck in the rain, but I am willing to risk that.

Watch a video about it below.

Dispatch LTE Is a Great Response To Fake Outrage

Last Sunday there was a letter to the editor by Glenda Gammel who was arguing that HER opinion about TV programming was more important than yours and SHE should decide what is on the air or not.

Today the Dispatch printed a brilliant letter to the editor in response.
When people want to attack programming they do not like on television (and radio), normally a standard formula is followed. Step One is to point out how the content is somehow offensive to someone. The second step is to point out the accessibility of the material and the third, most important, step is to invoke the most important, yet self-righteous theme: so we can protect the children.(source)
It is worth reading in its entirety here.

But It Makes the Neo-Hippies Happy

This is great. Thanks to Scott’s Morning Brew for posting this!

In the spirit of full disclosure, I have these bulbs in my basement and in my family room. Not because I believe the hyped BS about “saving the planet”, but because I am a cheap SOB who likes using 14 watts in place of 60 watts. The lighting is good but it takes a few minutes for them to get to full brightness. Not ideal for rooms where lights are turned on for a moment, like bathrooms. But soon we will have no choice. Thanks Congress!

Stolen Music? You Be The Judge

Below is a great video that explores the age old question of music similarities. Is it plagiarism, parallel thinking or just plain coincidence. You be the judge.

Shamed Former Ohio AG Dann Crashes Party: Asks ‘Where da bitches at?’

Former Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann has apparently decided that since he was too inexperienced to be an AG (Or stop sexual harassment in his office or infidelity in his pants) that he would be a PERFECT mentor to other Attorneys General from across the nation.

The Cleveland Plain Dealers Political Blog Reports:
Columbus -- Marc Dann, who blamed his inexperience for embarrassing lapses that cost him his job as state attorney general after just 16 months, is now a member of a group that mentors attorneys general across the country.

Dann showed up this week at the National Association of Attorneys General [NAAG] summer meeting in Providence, R.I., as a member of the organization's fraternity of former AGs who support the current officeholders.
...
Still, a NAAG official said Dann's visit was not awkward for many of his colleagues who embraced him.
So many jokes, so little time.

Former AG Dann + “embraced him” = easy shot.

Anyway, no word on whether or not his college-like roomies from his hoppin’ Columbus Condo were in toe.

UPDATE: Oh, wait... he was not asking where the bitches are at... he was asking "where the DISHES are at". Oh, my bad.

Drudge-Like News Site Focuses on Ohio

Ohio Media Guide...Check it outI received an email from Harry Knopp introducing me to his new web site, Ohio Media Guide. I normally do not run post about emails I get about new products or websites, but this time I am making an exception.

Why? Because I think it is a great website. Now obviously it is laid out in the same spirit of the Drudge Report but I think that is a plus. I love Drudge, and I love Ohio stories, so this is like peanut butter and chocolate in my mind (Man, did that sound like a Forrest Gump line or what?!?!).

Anyway, take a look at Ohio Media Guide (OMG for short... chuckle, chuckle).

Now if only someone could make a web site for all of Ohio like Virginia’s VARTV or DCRTV (Yeah, I know there is Ohio Media Watch, but he tends to forget that there are media outlets south of Cleveland. It is a great site, but it should be called Northern Ohio Media Watch).

UPDATE: Ok, ok, so Ohio Media Watch has a post up about a station in Cincinnati, but you get my point.

Remembering Tim Russert

I do not TiVo Face the Nation. I do not TiVo This Week… I TiVo Meet The Press with Tim Russert.

Today, on father’s day, we remember Tim Russert who died this week of a heart attack. It is bitter sweet on Father’s day since Russert was known for being so close to his father, Big Russ, and his son Luke (Half of XM’s 60/20 Sports with James Carville).

Also, for me it is personally sad since my love of this show (And news in general) comes from my own father. I have very fond memories of Sunday mornings watching Meet the Press with my father as he read the paper (and I the comics). To this day my father and I still find ourselves saying to each other, “Did you see [whoever] on Meet The Press?”. Like sports, Dad and I bond talking about politics.

Tim Russert's son, Luke, pauses over his father moderator's chair which he says he will keep foreverYou see, I did not learn what to thing about politics from my father... I learned HOW to understand politics and HOW to learn about politics and the news from my father so that I could think for myself. I learned by example and it is an increadible gift a parent can give. Meet The Press was part of that process.

So today we remember Tim Russert. With whom I sometimes disagreed with but always appreciated and counted on to inform us all. I wonder how the show will go on.

To quote Tim Russert, "What a country!" How true. How so true.

Go Bills... if only for a moment.

Opie and Anthony Talk Guy Out of Suicide

Today on the CBS side of the Opie and Anthony Show, Tom, a regular caller who is terminally ill, called in to say goodbye as he intended to blow his head off. Long story short, the boys calmed him down and got him some help.

Although this has happened before on other shows such as Stern and Bubba the Love Sponge (douche) I believe this is the first time it has happened on O&A. Sadly two things are happening because of this. First off, a ton of Stern fans are all over the message boards claiming the boys ripped him off (seriously, we get it. Stern fans really are asses) and second, I expect that lawyers are panicking right now and will restrict on-air content over this.

The best line heard all day was a caller that said the lawyers will most like say that it is ok for Tom to kill himself on the air, but he can’t say the word “doodie” as he does it. Great point.

Audio below.

Thanks Steve C. for getting it up so fast (something NEVER heard being said by his wife). rims shot sound
